Evoking Emotion in Your Characters and Readers
The ability to deliver a relatable emotional experience is a key skill required to take your writing to the next level. In this workshop we will discuss, among other things: utilizing the five senses (plus 3 more!) to show emotion, subtlety layering in emotion through word choices, character ‘tells’ and the use of subtext. Examples will be provided.
Winnie Griggs is the author of over 25 published works with a number of different publishers and she’s recently dipped her toes in the indie market. Her work has won numerous awards, including the Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice Award.
Winnie grew up in a rural area where she spent hours cutting jungle trails, building forts and looking for pirate ships on the nearby bayou. Eventually she found her Prince Charming, a rancher who rides a tractor instead of a steed. Together they built their own happily-ever-after that includes four children who are now pursing their own adventures. Her hobbies include experimenting in the kitchen, browsing estate sales and indulging her love of exotic teas.
