About Us – NOLA STARS
The North Louisiana StoryTellers and Authors of Romance is chapter of Romance Writers of America. The chapter started off as NOLA (North Louisiana Chapter of RWA) around 1984 and emerged in 1999 as NOLA STARs.
Nola Stars is a professional organization for both aspiring and published authors. The group promotes excellence in romantic fiction, helps writers become published and establish careers in their writing field, and provides continuing support for writers within the romance publishing industry.
Monthly meetings provide networking opportunities with fellow writers and industry professionals as well as include speakers on diverse topics: writing techniques, genres, publishing, marketing, and more.
Meetings are held on the second Saturday of the month unless otherwise stated. In March, the chapter sponsors a writing event which may be open-to-the-public. Please check out Events Page for more information. The chapter meets at the University Center at LSUS, One University Place, Shreveport, LA., with a business meeting at 10 a.m. and a writing program at 11 a.m. The monthly program lasts from 1 to 1½ hours.
Every Fall, NOLA STARs sponsors the Suzannah Contest, which is named in honor of romance author and founding member Suzannah Nelson Davis. This contest is open to all entries from published and unpublished writers, as long as the manuscript is unpublished and not contracted by the September 30 deadline. Whether a member chooses to enter or to judge the contest, both experiences enhance the aspiring/published member’s insight into her/his writing craft.
